We can have the state-of-the-art building, materials, and equipment, but if we don\u2019t have a nurturing and responsive relationship with the children and families, we are not going to be successful.\u00a0\u00a0 <strong>Loving, reliable, and responsive relationships are fundamental to child development.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-7387b849 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is crucial to build relationships early before there\u2019s a problem.\u00a0 Between 10 to 30% of preschool children are not behaviorally and emotionally ready to succeed in school.\u00a0 According to the CDC, <strong>one in five young children today are experiencing mental health issues and only 20% are receiving treatment.<\/strong>\u00a0 Many times, early problem behavior is predictive of future challenges and may lead to delinquency in adolescence, gang membership, and incarceration.\u00a0 Across the nation, preschool teachers report that children\u2019s disruptive behavior is the single greatest challenge they are facing today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Children learn and develop in the context of relationships that are responsive, consistent, and nurturing. We need to be mindful of all the relationships that a child has contact with:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The parent and child relationship<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The teacher and child relationship<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The teacher and parent relationship<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The relationships among the children<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The relationship between the staff and administration<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>All relationships that impact the child are critical in promoting social emotional development.<\/strong>\u00a0 The whole team must work together to implement a high-quality program built on <strong>nurturing, responsive relationships.<\/strong>\u00a0 Through relationships, children learn how to think, understand, communicate, behave, express emotions, and develop social skills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Teachers can support positive relationships with children by:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-7387b849 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:66.66%\">\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Acknowledging children\u2019s communication (verbal or non-verbal)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Greeting children by their name<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Engaging in one-to-one interactions, at eye level<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Using a pleasant, calm voice and simple language<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Providing warm, responsive physical contact<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Following the child\u2019s lead and interests during play<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Listening to children and encourage them to listen to others<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Acknowledging children\u2019s accomplishments &amp;
