{"id":1517,"date":"2023-09-26T23:38:14","date_gmt":"2023-09-26T23:38:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sayyestochildcare.org\/?p=1517"},"modified":"2024-06-02T21:39:14","modified_gmt":"2024-06-02T21:39:14","slug":"routines-for-infants-and-toddlers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sayyestochildcare.org\/en\/routines-for-infants-and-toddlers\/","title":{"rendered":"Routines for Infants and Toddlers"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-7387b849 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Last week we talked about the importance of routines and schedules with our preschoolers.\u00a0 Today, let\u2019s look at the importance of routines, schedules, and teachable moments with our infants and toddlers.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-7387b849 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:33.33%\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"683\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/sayyestochildcare.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/1-683x1024.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1518\" title=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sayyestochildcare.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/1-683x1024.png 683w, https:\/\/sayyestochildcare.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/1-200x300.png 200w, https:\/\/sayyestochildcare.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/1-768x1152.png 768w, https:\/\/sayyestochildcare.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/1-8x12.png 8w, https:\/\/sayyestochildcare.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/1.png 800w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 683px) 100vw, 683px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:66.66%\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In an infant room, there are as many schedules as there are infants.\u00a0 All caregiving is on demand with infants.\u00a0 With the support of the primary caregiver, infants begin to develop their own patterns for sleeping, eating, and other basic needs.\u00a0 Toddlers are more consistent and group-oriented.\u00a0\u00a0 A consistent daily schedule helps toddlers feel more in control, competent, and secure.\u00a0 However, we must be mindful to follow the child\u2019s lead and be flexible to handle each child\u2019s individual needs.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-7387b849 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Just like adults, children feel more confident and secure when their daily activities are predictable and familiar.\u00a0 A consistent daily schedule and step-by-step routines give children a predictable day.\u00a0 Schedules and routines in the group care setting and at home help children feel in control of their environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Routines offer the opportunity to build positive relationships with children and promote trust.\u00a0 Too often, the time spent diapering and toileting, feeding, dressing, and helping children fall asleep are missed opportunities for development and learning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The greatest opportunity for learning during the infancy and toddler period is through daily routines and experiences.\u00a0 Let\u2019s explore the following routines and highlight the vital teachable moments that we do not want to miss:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Hellos and goodbyes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Diapering and toileting<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Eating and mealtimes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sleeping and nap time<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Getting dressed and undressed<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-7387b849 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:66.66%\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A child learning to say hello and good-bye to his loved ones is a lifelong journey of learning to separate, control their emotions, and establish relationships with others.\u00a0 Teachers can support this transition by having a good-bye ritual with the family, allowing the child to have a comfort item, and family photos posted in the classroom.\u00a0\u00a0 This time is also an opportunity to develop physical skills such as waving bye-bye.\u00a0 Playing Peek-a-boo lets the little ones know that things can disappear and reappear.\u00a0 Older toddlers can practice fine motor skills by scribbling a note or picture for their parents&#8217; Young children gain an understanding of everyday events and procedures and learn what is expected of them as routines make their environment more predictable.
